Meridian Yoga and Qigong

Flowing into Wholeness with Daniel Orlansky (USA)

coming again 2019 or 20120

For all levels.

When the body flows like running water, it is always renewed, always fresh. This is true freedom.

Explore the Taoist concept of “effortless flow” through qigong exercises and then bring the same ease of motion into meriadian yoga sequences. This program focuses on breathing exercises to enhance life energy, qigong practices to open the meridians, meditative flow in yoga asana, and concentration techniques for mental clarity.

While yoga has its roots in the Vedic scriptures of India, qigong grew out of the Chinese Taoist pursuit of longevity. The movements in both forms are graceful and gentle, with powerful effects that detoxify the body as they increase strength, flexibility, and peace of mind.

Friday, Nov 9th
7-9:30 pm Introduction to Meridian Yoga and Qi Gong: Awakening to the Flow
When body, breath, and attention flow as one, heath, happiness, and wisdom are attained.
Drawing from Chinese medicine, Taoist philosophy, yoga, pranayama, meditation, and Qi Gong this evening will be a practice centered around “flow”. We will explore how the flow of breath can move the body, circulating life force through the meridians, connecting us the the universal energies of heaven and earth, sun and moon, and all of nature. We will learn simple Qi Gong exercises and vinyasa yoga flows, ending the evening with a moving form of chanting meditation called “Celestial Communications”.

Saturday, Nov 10th
11 am - 1:30 pm
Pranayama, Bandha, Mudra: The Power of the Breath
Breath is life and life is breath. When breath flows, so does life.
Experience harmony, lightness, joy and a radiant spirit with breathing exercises and inner energy practices drawn from classical and Kundalini Yoga. Through various pranayamas we will learn how to enhance and extend the breath. We will draw upon our inner locks — or bandhas — to channel our heightened pranic energy. And with mudras such as hand gestures we will explore ways to strengthen our mental focus. Beginners and advanced students will receive helpful tips for an effective home practice. If most of your yoga experience so far has been asana-based studies, this workshop will round out your practice.

3:00 - 5:30 pm
Yoga of Energy Flow and Swimming Dragon Qi Gong
How can we become still?.......   By moving with the stream.
And how can we become strong? ....... By entering the flow.
        Lao-Tze
While yoga has its roots in Indian Vedic scriptures, Qi Gong grew out of the Chinese Taoist pursuit of longevity. In this workshop we will explore the Taoist concept of “effortless flow” through Qi Gong exercises, and then bring the same ease of motion into sequences from Yoga of Energy Flow. Then we will focus on and learn Swimming Dragon Qi Gong, an ancient Chinese Qi Gong exercise. This one-minute Taoist form is unsurpassed for its grace and economy of movement. Imitating the serpentine movements of a dragon swimming in the sea and flying up into the clouds, it is reputed to be the best Qi Gong for the internal organs, spine and meridian systems, helping maintain the strength and flexibility of all the joints including the spine.

Yoga of Energy Flow and Eight Brocade Qi Gong
When the body flows like running water, it is always renewed, always fresh. This is true freedom.
Then we will focus on and learn Eight Brocade Qi Gong, one of the most widely practiced classic exercise sets in China, which can be dated back over 1,000 years. These eight exercises are elegant, graceful, and essential methods of energy cultivation, and are simple to learn, easy to practice and good for you.

3:00 - 5:30 pm
Meridian Yoga: The Art of Energy Flow
Our health is dependent on the free flow of chi/prana in our mind, body, and soul.
Using gentle pressure, body weight, and skillful touch to open the body’s energy pathways, we will work with a partner to increase our range of motion and perfect our alignment in yoga asanas associated with the fourteen meridians of Chinese medicine. A modern stretching method called resistance/PNF stretching will be taught, along with shiatsu and Thai Yoga massage.
When we release the tensions that we store in our bodies, we experience a profound alignment of body, mind and soul. As nature's energy streams through us, the heart begins to sing and we become connected to the universal life force that bridges heaven and earth, sun and moon, and all of nature.  Feel free to attend by yourself, or with a friend.
